It’s officially socks weather, and I’ve had a few people get in touch this week asking me to do a post on where I buy my socks. I actually originally wrote this guide a few years ago, so I thought I would update with a few new brands that I’ve discovered since then and new styles that are available this season.

I had so many requests for this post the first time around. As a flat shoe lover, so it goes that you become both a beautiful floor lover (#tileporn) and a snazzy socks lover. I know many of you fall into this category too! So there comes a time when the 3 for 2 offers at Gap just don’t cut it anymore. You want socks that are more individual, more of a statement and, well, more snazzy. And once they become an important part of your outfit, you’re willing to spend more on them. Genevieve Sweeney

Genevieve Sweeney is a knitwear brand, so she doesn’t do just socks! The great thing about this brand is that everything is made in the UK, so just by buying a pair of socks you will be supporting local industry and reducing your carbon footprint. The eagle eyed amongst you will have also spotted that I have my initials on these – a service anyone can have done online for an extra £5 and that makes a brilliant gift, as does the yearly sock subscription.

Hysteria by Happy Socks

Hysteria ‘Liza’ ankle socks, £13.95 ([AD] happysocks.com)

I’ve always loved Happy Socks, but their premium line called Hysteria is BEYOND gorgeous. There are sparkles, nylon, silk, block colours – you name it, they do it. They might be pretty out there but they are still really chic, too. In my book that makes them perfect.

Maik London

Chevron socks, £12 (maiklondon.com)

As well as selling socks as pairs, Maik does sock boxes, which would make a brilliant gift. The socks themselves are really lovely, with a focus on geometric designs. They are also sustainably sourced and ethically produced. Winner.

& Other Stories

You’ll find one of the most comprehensive selections of lurex socks around in & Other Stories. I got this pair last year but they have some very similar ones in store now, as well as LOADS of other options, including sparkly stripes and block colours. Most come in at around £8 and are really good quality (hence why I’m still wearing my old ones!).

de-parture

Flyer socks, £14 (de-parture.co)

De-parture is a street sock brand, and they make everything from organic or recyclable material. You can check out their collection at de-parture.co

COS

COS is my go-to for a slinky sock, and I’m happy to report that slinky gets sparkly at this time of year. Their slim fit means they are perfect for shoes you would ordinarily wear with bare feet, like sandals.

Oybo

Odd socks specialists Oybo are just fantastic. I love them! They are an Italian brand and if you buy online they can ship to the UK, but I’ve noticed lots of smaller boutiques stocking them recently, and they’re also available at the brilliant new female sneaker online shop, Second Store.

Anthropologie

Becksondergaard ‘Judy’ socks, £8 ([AD] anthropologie.com)

There’s more lurex loveliness at Anthropologie, as you can see from these beauties from Becksondergaard, but it’s also the place to go for a novelty sock that’s just on the right side of silly, such as Catherine Tough’s chunky knit sausage dog socks.

Stance

I’ve been harping on about Stance since I discovered its amazing invisible trainer socks, but its visible socks are just as brilliant. Plenty of snazz, lots of glitter options (so great for party season) and best of all, a choice of lengths. And by that I don’t just mean knee-length or ankle-length. They have calf socks too, and their invisible ankle boot socks are something I don’t know how I ever lived without!

Burlington

I know the patterned socks with Birkenstocks look isn’t for everyone, but it’s one that I love and Burlington are my latest favourites for doing so. This demonstrates what I love so much about snazzy socks – don’t be apologetic about wanting to keep your feet warm! Turn up those jeans and show them off with pride.
