The chicest crossover slides and more!

|It’s time for this week’s Shoes News|

Bonnie Barker

When a shoe brand has been doing its thing since 1880, you know they know their onions. Or at least, their outsoles. So I was thrilled when Barker got in touch to see if I wanted to try out a pair of their beautiful gentleman-inspired shoes. I love a bit of English heritage, me. And we’re not just talking any old brogues here; Barker shoes are handmade in their Northamptonshire factory, and you can just tell that they ooze quality the second you take them out of the box.

Barker ‘Charlotte’ monks, £200 (

Although Barker is primarily a menswear brand, there are plenty of women’s styles on offer, too. I plumped for the Charlotte two-tone monks and as you can see, they are beautiful (they only arrived last week, and it’s been a bit hot to try road test them properly, so I will report back on the comfort factor when I’ve worn them a bit more. So far, so really really comfy, though). I figured with something this classic and well-made, they’d be a staple in my wardrobe for decades to come. But there are more contemporary, colourful options too, such as the Josie, Cassie and Gwen lace-ups, as well as Fearne, which is, rather delightfully, hand painted in red, purple or multicoloured.

3 of the best…crossover slides

Ancient Greek Sandals ‘Thais’ sandals, £135 (; available in 10 colours and textures); Hudson ‘Lonatu’ sandals, £80 (; also available in black); Zara leather crossover sandals, £25.99 (; available in 4 colours)

I’ve had a pair of Ancient Greek Sandals ‘Thais’ slides for a few years now and I love them. The added interest of the crossed leather elevates these simple sandals to something much more chic. Not only are they back this summer in 10 different colours, but I’ve found some similar styles elsewhere, too. I’m particularly taken with Zara’s bright blue pair for the aesthetic as well as the price…

Dune’s super cute buckle espadrilles – now in the sale!

We might only be a couple of days into June, but the sales have started already. I spied these lovely espadrilles on Dune’s website earlier this week, and they’ve been reduced by twenty quid. How nice? I don’t think I’ve seen any quite like this anywhere else – they’re a bit like a lightweight version on Birkenstock’s Boston clogs (AKA my ‘by the back door’ shoes).
