If you’re a fan of fancy flourishes on your shoes, then this season is going to make you happy. And even if, like me, you’re not so much into feminine flats, you can’t help but be swayed when you see some of the beautiful shoes on offer for summer. Bows and knots are a brilliant way of elevating a simple pair of slip-on flats to something more dressed up, which makes most of these options perfect for wedding season.
Rogue Matilda Tootsie shoes in black, £135 (roguematilda.com)
That said, I wouldn’t reserve these solely for dressed up occasions, since they also make a lovely partner simply for a pair of jeans and a plain T-shirt. Ooh, a pair of shorts, even! The enclosed toe options work for the office, while the slides would make the most chic poolside attire around.
The pair I got my hands on to try out (top) are from one of my favourite brands, Rogue Matilda. The style, called the Tootsie, comes in black and hot pink Indian silk, and is even more beautiful in the flesh. They’re very elegant on the foot, and really sum up the notion that this is a style of shoe for any occasion.
If you’re going for the enclosed toe option, I would advise looking for an almond or pointed toe shape. A round toe ballet pump with a bow shouldn’t come in a size for anyone over the age of around 9, in my opinion! As well as the Rogue Matildas, I love the striped versions from J Crew (3) and Boden (8).
Sandals-wise, anything goes, although the pool slide shape seems to be the most popular. These suede mustard slides from Madewell come in a variety of colours, as do the checked versions from Miista (I’m seriously considering buying a pair but I can’t decide between these and a yellow gingham. It has to be yellow gingham, right?!)

As usual, I’ve selected three outfits below that I think would work well with a pair of blow flats. I’d love to know what you think, so do leave comments at the bottom!
