Grenson’s New Balance trainers are everything

Grenson x New Balance

Grenson x New Balance 576 trainers, £300 (grenson.com)

On Thursday evening, a courier knocked at my door with an unexpected delivery from Grenson (the perks of writing a flat shoe blog and owning a dog by the same name, I guess!). Inside were a pair of the brand’s new collaboration with New Balance – these divine 576 kicks, complete with brogue detailing and detachable kilties. How amazing?!

It’s not the first time these two British brands have teamed up, but it is the first time that they have made a women’s shoe. Yay! I was pretty disappointed last time around when they didn’t come in my size, I don’t mind telling you. And not only are they dead nice, but they are made in the Grenson factory in Northampton; I’m always keen to reduce my carbon footprint and support British industries where possible, so this is a massive win win situation.

These – and the accompanying men’s style – launch at 9am today, Saturday January 6th.

Three of the best…snow boots

Clockwise from top: Bogs B-Moc insulated boots, £120 (bogsfootwear.co.uk); Moon Boots, £120 (rubbersole.co.uk); Sorel Cozy Carnival boots, £110 (sorelfootwear.co.uk)

My Instagram feed tells me that ski season has started, and while Mr Brogue and I haven’t booked a snow holiday this year (sob!), that doesn’t stop me thinking about snow boots. Particularly as we’re having another cold snap! So here are three of my favourites. They include the Sorel Cozy Carnival – I have these in black but they come in 5 colours and are as comfortable as trainers while achieving the cosiness their name suggests – as well as a new discovery, Bogs. Although they are fabric, these boots are totally waterproof. My favourite feature though, is that they are fully lined, all the way to the toe, with a ludicrously soft fluffy fleece lining – this has the added bonus that you don’t need to wear socks if you’re just nipping out for some more saucisson.

New website discovery: myfashiontribu.com

I’m always happy to hear about a lovely new place to browse shoes, and the website myfashiontribu.com definitely falls into that category. It stocks well-known brands such as Birkenstock, Superga, Ash and Bensimon, as well as more niche ones such as House of Spring (you can read more about them here). Oh, and its Instagram account features lots of kittens!

  1. I am in need of snow boots (going to Banff in March!!!) and I love the look of the aigle ones, but I’m struggling to find out if they’re waterproof, do you know? Also the Zalando website implies they have a hidden 3 inch heel… 😦 is that right??!

    1. I am shocked and appalled to tell you that I missed the wedge! YOU ARE CORRECT! 😱 I’m going to find a different pair and replace them now. Man I hate hidden wedges!!! I own the other two pairs though so can vouch for those!!!
