Converse launches Nike Flyknit (!!), and the rest of this week’s Shoes News

Converse X Nike Flyknit

Converse X Nike Flyknit, £90,

Nike bought Converse back in 2003, and up until now the only real difference to the design of your beloved Chucks has been the introduction of the Nike Lunarlon sole in some styles (read about that here). But yesterday, the Converse X Nike Flyknit collection launched and they are LUSH. I love how they haven’t messed with the original design of these classic high tops too much; the real difference is in the feel of the shoes rather than the aesthetic. The Flyknit fabric means they are really, really lightweight and breathable, so perfect for summer, and they have that mega comfy Lunarlon sole, too. They’re available in six colours, although my favourites are the monochrome because they’re just so cool. And of course, you can still buy your old favourite canvas Chucks as well, if that’s more your bag, so don’t panic!

Gingham sneakers FTW

Christopher Kane gingham sneakers

Christopher Kane gingham sneakers, £325,

You may have noticed that gingham is A Thing this season; it’s absolutely everywhere! I’ve always been a fan of gingham – I’m wearing a gingham dress from last summer as I write this – so this pleases me greatly. I’m especially happy that it has made its way on to shoes and in particular, sneakers and plimsolls. To be honest, it’s taking every ounce of my self-restraint not to sell the computer I’m writing this on in order to fund the purchase of these Christopher Kane  safety clasp sneakers. I know, I know, I’m always going on about Christopher Kane sneakers. One day, I will get myself a pair…

Madewell x Vans

Madewell x Vans gingham sneakers, £52.08,

SeaVees for J Crew

SeaVees for J Crew, £88,

Anyway, in the meantime, there are some more affordable versions available, like these two collaborations. SeaVees, a Californian brand, has some splendid striped kicks as well as these blue gingham numbers exclusively in store at J Crew at the moment. And Vans has teamed up with Madewell for a fresh take on its classic deck shoe (NB these are both listed in US sizes and with Madewell you’ll need to pay for shipping from the US for orders under £200).
