Converse Holiday Party (sparkles!) and the rest of this week’s Shoes News

Converse Holiday Party

Chuck Taylor All Star Holiday Party in gold hi, £60; gunmetal low, £55 (also available in pink); and silver hi, £60. All converse.com

I’m not normally one for sequins, but I’m rather partial to a bit of sparkle somewhere unexpected. Like on a pair of Converse! For me, these are the perfect party shoes; plenty of bling but still properly casual and look best with a tatty pair of old jeans. A much more chic option than a scratchy Christmas jumper, if you ask me.

3 Of The Best Snazzy Loafers

Floral print loafers, £29.99, zara.com; velvet ‘Liberace’ loafers, £79 reduced from £120, kurtgeiger.com; silver ‘Karter’ loafers, £65, topshop.com

Speaking of perfect party season shoes, I think loafers are up there with the holiday Converse. They don’t require any lacing up (and let’s face it, we all feel pretty lazy over Christmas) and this season, thanks to Gucci, the high street is littered with them in gorgeous luxurious fabrics like velvet, metallic leather and tapestry-style prints. There’s still time to bag yourself a pair before Christmas – I’ve got my eye on the Kurt Geiger ‘Liberace’ loafers in dove (shown here in wine).

Julien David Colette ‘Bullet’ Bata pumps, £74, style.com

Have you tried shopping on Style.com since it had a revamp into an ecommerce site? Now might be the time as it’s stocking these fab Bata plimsolls from the uber-chic Parisian boutique Colette. They’re a collaboration with the designer Julien David, who is responsible for the Japanese-influenced print (he’s French but is based in Japan) – don’t those waves look like a Houkosai painting?
