The new minimal sneakers brand you NEED in your life, and the rest of this week’s Shoes News

Axel Arigato

Clockwise from top: cap-toe sneaker, £135; clean 90 zip sneaker, £145; Paragraph sneaker, £170;  clean 360 sneaker, £165; all

Well, I’m only half a week into this new freelance lark and I’m already discovering new things on my travels around London. Long may it last! It’s amazing how much you miss when you’re sitting at a desk day after day, even if that desk is at a fashion magazine. So this week I wandered past a shop I hadn’t seen before: Axel Arigato. It drew me in like the mother ship…minimal sneaker heaven! Oh, and it’s completely unisex, and you know how much that floats my boat. There are only a handful of styles but all come in a variety of colours, and all come in my size. YAY! I’ve only pictured the light grey ones above – because they look so nice together and really, who doesn’t love a light grey sneaker? – but do check the website for all the other shades. There’s even more in store (it’s on Broadwick Street but they’re also stocked at Harvey Nichols) – my favourite was a pair of plain white tennis shoes with a grey sole. They’re not mega pricey either, at around the £150 mark, so a treat, but an achievable one.

15% off at Seven Boot Lane – code still valid!

You’ve still just got time to get 15% off at Seven Boot Lane using my exclusive discount code. Read all about that here. And I have an update on how brilliant their winter boots are! Yesterday Mr Brogue (AKA Man About A Dog Blog) and I were walking Grenson and we got caught in a HUGE hailstorm. We were soaked (he was literally wet through to his pants!!)…but my feet in my Seven Boot Lane ‘Gloria’ boots were completely dry. Brilliant.

Zara’s amazing tribute to Miu Miu

Leather ballerinas with straps, £45.99, Also available in black.

This week I spotted my friend Katie wearing a splendid new pair of shoes and was convinced that they were from Miu Miu. I’d been admiring Miu Miu’s strappy ballet pumps at Milan Fashion Week in September and there had already been a few dead ringers on the high street earlier on in the season, but these are by far the nicest ones around in my opinion. They’re real leather, and they have a little more support than a lot of ballet pump styles do. Katie’s been wearing hers with ribbed socks in the same shade of burgundy (check her out on Instagram here) and is planning to add some gingham ribbon to her straps for a real high end look. The best bit? They’re just £45.99 from Zara.
