I’ve recently come into possession of a rather lovely pair of Dr Martens. They are a collaboration with Pendleton – a 150 year-old woollen mill in America – and mine feature snazzy jacquard panels (you can also buy this pattern in boot form here). I love them; the added texture of the fabric really makes for a luxurious winter shoe but because of their classic style they don’t look too outlandish.

I’ve spotted a few other styles in a similar vein recently. Should you be less inclined to sparkle this party season, I reckon this first pair by Peter Som make a brilliant alternative to all those glittery shoes we’re expected to wear at this time of year. So cute with those bright orange bows, and that toe-cap protects the fabric if you get caught in the rain.

Or how about some slipper-styles with a slightly tribal feel – bang on trend for next season, so you’ll be well ahead of the curve with these easy shoes. Penelope Chilvers also has this style in tartan (here), should you fancy something a bit more fitting for Christmas.

Finally, these brilliant trainers from Topshop. Wear with a leather pencil skirt – this navy one from Marks & Spencer would work perfectly – and a sweatshirt for this season’s take on sports luxe.
