OK, I realise some of us are experiencing warm sunshine today, but it’s nearing the end of September and if there’s one thing we should all be thinking about, it’s boots. BOOTS! I love this time of year, when you can still risk bare legs but you’re so excited about the new season that you just HAVE to slip something more substantial on your feet. I’ll be doing a series of posts this week, all focussing on different types of boots. Today, inspired by a reader who wanted stylish boots for strolling with her dog, it’s the lace-up walking-style.
First up it’s Clarks’ Morgan Carla boots, discovered on one of my recent advertorial shoots for the brand. I love these in tricolour block colour, but they’re also available in black if you prefer. They’re amazingly comfortable and have one of the key features of the walking-style boot, which is the hooks instead of holes at the top of the laces.
Another boot with this feature and added cosy comfort around the ankle is this fabulous pair from Grenson. I spied these at the press day about six months ago and fell in love on the spot; I’m a sucker for a real practical boot like this. I do most of my winter city walking in my Grenson Alice boots, so highly recommend the brand for those of you who do a lot of leg work.
I’ve gone literal with this next pair from comfort specialists Hotter; perfect for a serious dog walker who needs the practicality of a lightweight waterproof boot with a rubber sole, but is fed up with wearing boots from outdoor clothing stores. A much better option if you live in the country rather than the city. They’re not available just yet but you can pre-order on the website.
I recently wrote about UGG upping its game on the design front and offering more than just its iconic sheepskin slippers (which, for the record, I hate unless worn as actual slippers as I am doing in my house right this second) and sure enough, it has continued to bring out far more desirable styles for AW13. Imagine how cosy this pair of boots will be when the snow comes in this winter! And I love that brogue and fringing details for extra style points. Not a pair for the serious walker, but they have touches of the style with those hooks on the laces.
Finally, and just because I love them, the fashion walking boot from Swear. OK, they’re not really walking boots, but judging from other boots I have from Swear, I bet they’re extremely comfortable and they look fantastic with that cute toggle fastening. They come in a few different colours but this chestnut brown is my favourite; the perfect autumn boot.
Tomorrow: slip-on ankle boots.
